Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - When you think Marathon you usually think running, but give some credit to the NDSU softball team, because they just completed the equivalent to a marathon in college softball, and at the finish line was a ticket to the NCAA tournament.

After losing as the top seed in the first round, the Bison had to win 5 straight to win the tournament.

This morning, they laced up the cleats for a 2nd and decisive title game with Fort Wayne for a 3rd time in 3 years.

NDSU didn't wait long to wake up the bats.

Jackie Stifter goes big fly in the second to straight away center.

The 2 run shot gives the Bison a 2-0 lead.

They weren't done with the long ball either.

In the 3rd, Jenina Ortega unloads on the first pitch she sees.

That ball finds the trees beyond left center.

3 run home run makes it 6-0.

The Bison get 2 more home runs in the 5th, Logan Moreland skips one off the top of the wall in center field.

NDSU up ends the defending champs 12-5 the final to punch a ticket to the national tournament.

Bison pitcher Krista Menke is the tournament MVP, after pitching all 6 games, which includes 36 innings, 515 pitches. Insane stuff, but the hard work paid off.

Jenina Ortega/ 2-3, 3 RBI, 3 Runs: “This is the best one out of the 4 chances we've had and the three that we've won. This definitely feels like the best one. I knew we were ready, our mindset was ready. All we had to do was put it together and work as a team and that's exactly what we did.”

Voice got a workout too!

The NCAA tournament selection show is tonight at 9 on ESPNU.
