Larimore, ND (WDAY TV) - So far this spring season has been filled with plenty of rain showers.

Wet conditions that have resulted in standing water on many farm fields through the Red River Valley, keeping many farmers out of their fields and back in their shops.

In Grand Forks County, over two and a half inches of rain fell in April, more than the double the average for the month.

Already in May the area has seen nearly an inch of rainfall, leaving many farmers with anywhere between zero and 10% of their fields planted.

Robert Stover/Larimore farmer: "I think all farmers are eternal optimists. They all hope for good years. And as the year goes on and as things come and go. We just roll with the punches.”

Farmers say a week of dry and sunny weather would allow them to get back in the fields and start planting.
