Bride-to-be runs Fargo Marathon 10K before wedding today

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Typically when a bride-to-be is strapping on running shoes on her wedding day, it's not a good sign. But 24-year-old KayCee Johnson had no intentions of ditching her fiancé; she just had a quick 10k to finish before heading to the altar.

Once these runners are done with the race today, usually that's it. That is their biggest event of the day, it's over. But for one racer, their day is just beginning.

"Woohoo, Go Bride!"

You could call it ambitious, running a race and getting married in the same day.

KayCee Johnson says it's just turning lemons into lemonade.

KayCee Johnson/Bride: "We found out that the marathon was moving their event to the 10th of May and we had already picked out our wedding date so we decided, or I decided that I wanted to do something a little extra crazy.”

"We're going to get married today at 4.”

And some of the thousands of runners alongside her did call her crazy.

You could say it's a way of celebrating her relationship though, running down the very street where she met her fiancé Ryan Judd at a sports bar.

Before she marries the one she loves, she's doing something she loves.

Johnson: "I thought what the heck, it would just be a good way for me to get back into running the events, and why not start with my wedding day right away in the spring.”

Only fitting, her maid of honor at her side.

KayLee Benson/Sister, Maid of Honor: "We've been running events together for quite a while so it's nice to kind of get in the running action again with her.”

KayCee ditching her fiancé this morning, temporarily.

Johnson: "He is not a runner he is more of a once a week work outer type of guy.”

To gain a little encouragement.

Johnson: "It was fun. There was a lot of people out there giving me high fives and encouraging me to go on"

"Woohoo … haha"

And a big congratulations from all of us to the newlyweds.
