Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - You've got your training miles in, your new shoes, your shorts and shirt, now what do you eat?

That is what a lot of runners are thinking about Friday night, as they get ready to run tomorrow.

As thousands wound their way through the fitness expo today, came all the questions. Not what do I wear, but, what the heck do I eat tonight at tomorrow.

Mark Knutson/ Fargo Marathon Race Director: “Probably the biggest thing, night before don't overdo it, you have this mentality of carb loading. And while it is good to have carbs, you don't want too many and feel bloated the next day.”

Now when it comes to carb loading the experts say you should have been eating pasta and rice the last three days, don't overdo it tonight, breakfast tomorrow morning, banana, yogurt, bagel and sips of energy drink.

Veteran runner and WDAY Marathon analyst Hanna Grinaker says in the morning it is a good idea to eat two or three hours before you run, you will need the fuel later. Avoid orange juice and other acidic fruits in the morning. Coffee might give you a boost, but avoid fiber your stomach will thank you.

Hanna Grinaker/ Runner and Nutritionist: “Everybody is a little nervous and anxious and that will speed up the transition time in the stomach that can move things along a little faster and you don't want to spend time in the bathroom.”

And tonight, don't carb load or eat so much that you wake up still feeling full.

You want to awake, hungry, to fuel that running monster out of the gate

By the way, for every gram of stored carbohydrate, you store an extra three grams of water. Meaning you will be hydrated and fueled as you start your race.
