Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Police in Fargo and Moorhead believe the slashing that took place in south Fargo Wednesday afternoon may be connected to 4 other cases in the metro area.
Authorities held a press conference Thursday afternoon lead by Fargo Police Chief Keith Ternes and featuring Moorhead Police Chief David Ebinger, Cass County States Attorney Burch Burdick and several investigators from both agencies.
Ternes said that the suspect in Wednesday's slashing case, Obsa Ali Omer, is suspected of placing and responding to adult ads on Craigslist for the purpose of committing robbery. The victim in Thursday's slashing attack told police that he had responded to an adult ad placed by Omer for the purpose of an adult encounter. Omer was arrested and booked into the Cass County Jail on charges of robbery and possession of marijuana. Other charges may be pending.
Moorhead Police Chief Ebinger emphasized that ads placed on Craigslist and other social media sites using the words "discrete" or "discretion" should raise red flags.
"It's fair to say that quite often a lot of our prostitution cases are generated from online resources," Ternes said. "But the sites are also being used with the motivation of robbery."
