GRAND FORKS, ND - Amtrak passengers heading west through North Dakota will be traveling by bus to stations between Fargo and Minot this summer because of construction on the tracks, the passenger rail line said.

That includes stations in Grand Forks, Devils Lake and Rugby. The temporary detour will last until Sept. 30. The eastbound route will not be affected.

Amtrak President and CEO Joe Boardman will visit the three affected communities this week, including a stop in Grand Forks Thursday, according to spokesman Marc Magliari. Amtrak said it agreed to a request from BNSF, which owns the railroad.

BNSF has said it will invest $400 million in upgrades to its infrastructure in North Dakota. The detour will allow the upgrades to be completed faster.
