Kat Perkins has made the top five on “The Voice.”
The Scranton, N.D., native found herself fighting for votes Tuesday for the second week in a row on the NBC singing show as she sang “Barracuda” by Heart. “The Rockin’ Nanny” from Minneapolis will move on to the next round against four other singers. She went up against Sisaundra Lewis, Delvin Choice and Audra McLaughlin, who were eliminated.
“I actually don’t know (if Perkins is safe),” coach Adam Levine said after being asked whether she would advance. “One thing I do know that she does deserve to move on.
“I’m at peace with everything and I hope America agrees with me.”
Perkins opened the show Tuesday with Jake Worthington, Kristen Merlin and McLaughlin singing “Chainsaw” by The Band Perry.
Perkins was left standing in the bottom four, forcing her to sing for an “Instant Save.” Voters had five minutes to tweet and save Perkins. A poll shown during the episode showed she was ahead of the other singers with more than 30 percent during voting.
This isn’t the first time Perkins was in danger of leaving the show for good. Last week, Perkins was in the bottom three but was saved by voters. Levine said she did not deserve to be in the bottom, promising if she did what she needed to, she would move on to the next round.
“This girl carries a torch and then some,” Levine said.
“There is no bottom four. We are at that point in the show.”
Perkins put her own rock spin on the techno song “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk during the performance round Monday. She drew praise not only from the coaches and audience but also Hebron, N.D., native and country singer Gwen Sebastian.
"It was amazing to be able to be back home at ‘The Voice,’ especially being able to finally meet Kat,” Sebastian said in an interview. “I think she's an incredible singer and entertainer.”
Sebastian, who was a contestant on “The Voice” in 2012, returned to the show Monday as a mentor for country singer Blake Shelton’s team. Though the singer did not give tips to Perkins on air, Sebastian said she was proud of her. They even got time to snap a photo together.
Perkins will continue to sing on the show, hoping to be named “The Voice.” The winner of the show will receive a recording contract.
“The Voice” airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 7 p.m.
