Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - For this special anniversary year of the Fargo Marathon we are guaranteed one thing.
We'll have a new champion.
Last year's men's champ Chris Erichsen, who's won the race twice isn't here; he's on a work trip in Asia.
Opening the field up for plenty of contenders.
Eric Sondag had to convince Mark Knutson to be let into the race in 2008, and then he went and won the marathon in what was a record time of two hours, 30 minutes, 34 seconds.
Eric Sondag/ 2008 Fargo Marathon Champion: “I hate talking about it in a way that makes it sound like I was so lucky to do it because I wasn't lucky I was prepared. It came sooner than I had expected. I thought it was going to take more to do it at that time. Given the way the level of competition had been increasing. Sure enough the next year a 2:24 ended up winning it, so I hit it at the right time.”
Sondag will be running the half marathon on Saturday, with someone special next to him; we'll feature that tomorrow night in Beyond the Game.
And a reminder we'll have live coverage of the race starting bright and early at 7:45 Saturday morning on 6-3, wday.com and 970 WDAY, you can also watch on Cable One channel 96 and Midcontinent 596 for the 10th annual Fargo Marathon.
