Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Bucky Burgau has done everything you can as a college baseball coach and Monday Concordia honored him for his 36 years of service to the school with a special ceremony before the Cobbers final home game of the season as they named the field, Bucky Burgau field.

More than a handful of his former players were on hand, his summer employer the F-M Red Hawks staff stopped by and he was given several gifts, including a picture from the Cobbers opponent Bethel Monday.

The only coach in the history of the MIAC to reach 700 wins was expectedly emotional before the game.

Bucky Burgau/ Cobber Head Coach for 36 Years: “I want people to know whatever I have given to Concordia, Concordia has given to me tenfold, students, staff and the Cobber baseball players have given so much to me and my family, never ever to repay them.”

Bryant Bergerson/ Concordia 1992-95: “He means everything he says when he says looks out for everyone, going to tell you 800 other people deserve it rather than him it wouldn't be right to call this field anything other than Bucky Burgau field for what he means to Concordia baseball.”

Terry Haus/ Concordia 1993-96: “He just does things that you don't know about, you come in as a freshman trying to figure things out and he's forgotten more baseball than all of us had ever played.”

Cobbers lost the opening game to Bethel, they wrap the year against the Gophers on Wednesday, then the head coaching duties turn to Chris Coste.
