Waseca, MN (WDAY TV) - Disturbing details are emerging today about the Waseca teenager who police say was plotting a killing spree, but was caught just in time.
17-year-old John Ladue told investigators he drew inspiration from previous school shootings.
Such as Columbine, Virginia Tech and Sandy Hook.
According to police, his plan was to kill his family, start a diversionary fire in rural Waseca to distract fire crews, and then carry out a mass shooting at Waseca junior and senior high school.
The plan was thwarted by a Waseca resident; who reported suspicious activity at a storage facility.
That's where the police found the teen in a locker full of bomb making materials.
Capt. Kris Markeson/Waseca Police Department: "Numerous guns, ammunition, prepared bombs, and paperwork documenting his plans were removed from the home."
According to those documents, Ladue originally wanted to carry out the plot on April 20th to commemorate the massacre at Columbine, but didn't because it was Easter Sunday, and school was not in session.
