Red River forecast to crest Friday at 25.7 feet, moderate flood stage (w/ audio)

FARGO – The Red River is over its banks and is forecast to crest Friday at 25.7 feet, slightly above the moderate flood stage, which begins at 25 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

FARGO – The Red River is over its banks and is forecast to crest Friday at 25.7 feet, slightly above the moderate flood stage, which begins at 25 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

As of this morning, the Red had crept above 17 feet, the beginning of minor flood stage.

At 18 feet, Elm Street between 14th and 15th Avenue North is closed. The North Broadway Bridge is closed at a river stage of 22 feet. City park and recreation areas along the river begin to flood at 25 feet.

The rainy weather is expected to continue, with another half inch possible today and tonight in Fargo-Moorhead, and a slight chance for rain through the rest of the week.

As of this morning, Fargo has received 0.58 inches of rain today, and 3.1 inches so far this month. The average precipitation for April is 1.38 inches.

Flood warnings also are in effect for the Red in Wilkin and Richland counties and the Buffalo River in Clay County.

The Red in Fargo-Moorhead is expected to recede to minor flood stage by early Sunday.
