Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Bishop John Folda and the Diocese of Fargo approved a building committee recommendation to begin construction on a new catholic elementary school.

Thursday community members gathered to break ground at the construction site set to become Trinity Elementary School in West Fargo.

Nearby catholic schools brought dozens of kids to join in on a celebration.

Members of the diocese say the $15.3 million project is needed to support young Catholics in one of the fastest growing areas in the state.

Dr. Michael Smith/JPII Catholic Schools Superintendent: "You know people don't want to be driving across town to have their kids go to those schools and this is exactly where the growth is and its right where we need to be."

The new school will open in 2015 and include at least a dozen classrooms, a full gymnasium, media center and outdoor activity space.
