Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Minnesota State University Moorhead has a new president.

Anne Blackhurst, currently MSUM's provost and senior vice president of academic affairs, was appointed today by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees.

When recommending Blackhurst, MnSCU chancellor Steven Rosenstone said she "has been an outstanding provost" with "a deep appreciation of the university."

Blackhurst beat out Carlos Vargas-Aburto, the other finalist, for the job.

Anne Blackhurst/NEW MSUM President: “first word that comes to mind is elated. It's a tremendous honor and privilege. And I’m also extremely humbled by the trust that chancellor Rosenstone and the board of trustees have placed in me.”

Blackhurst is expected to start in July, taking over for current president Edna Szymanski, who will retire at the end of June.
