Valley City, ND (WDAY TV) - News of Buehner's death is hitting the VCSU community hard.
Students and faculty alike remembering the life, and grieving the death of the 5th year starting catcher.
Today Valley City State University is remembering a fellow student. One of their own. A student athlete. And someone they say will be sorely missed.
23-year old Dan Buehner's body was pulled from the Sheyenne River this morning after a rafting accident.
For many on campus, news of Buehner's death is too hard to comment on
"I’d rather not comment"
"I think the campus just doesn't really want to talk about it now"
But some who didn't know Buehner on a personal level, still have him in their thoughts.
David Burgess/ VCSU Junior: "It's really unfortunate, my prayers are with his family and friends I guess"
Those who spent the most time with Buehner are telling us more about the starting catcher
Jack Denholm/ VCSU Athletic Director: "A real quiet kid. He is going to be really missed by the baseball team and just a tragic thing that happened here with Dan.”
The University has cancelled both today and tomorrow's baseball practices and games, to help the team that Buehner was a leader of, mourn the loss.
Denholm: "We're just kind of taking it day by day and hour by hour and I know they're pulling together. It's a really close knit group of guys"
And it's just that, time, that VCSU is hoping will help heal the void left behind, by the senior business management major.
Police are still investigating what lead to the drowning, and haven't ruled out criminal action.
