Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Mother Nature cooperated in a big way for the start of Earth Week celebrations.

At MSUM, students sampled organic food and learned more about recycling and healthy eating from non-profits like Prairie Roots Co-op.

And the school's growing Sustainability Program was able to show off its latest project.

A battery powered pickup, to be used on campus.

The truck's gas powered engine was removed, and an electric motor run by batteries, powers the green friendly truck.

Joe Herbst/ MSUM Sustainability Director: “So here we have a battery bank of 24 6-volt batteries and they are all wired together and they charge at the same time in addition to the batteries up front the charger works off of a 110 outlet."

Other events are happening at Concordia and the Red River Zoo.
