Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Our spring that seems to be taking its time coming has put a runner's cramp into some of those training for the marathon.

But for some MSUM students, the offer from the university provost has been too good to refuse.

Dr. Anne Blackhurst sent out a tweet to the campus which offered to pay Fargo Marathon registration, if the students would run, wearing Dragon gear.

Expect to see Red come Marathon Day.

of course it would be great to be training for a marathon under a sunny blue sky, but it's Fargo-Moorhead.

Still, MSUM's Provost and two students earlier Tuesday put on some miles. The students took up Anne Blackhurst on a challenge she put on her twitter site. You run as an MSUM student, looking like a proud Dragon, and she will pick up the registration fee.

Dr. Anne Blackhurst/ MSUM Provost: “The marathon is one of those signature Fargo Moorhead events, and the university has a vested interest in being a partner in the community.”

For MSUM students Kelli Nadeau and Susie Kitzman, it was a no brainer, even though they are fresh off their swimming season.

Susie Kitzman/ MSUM Student: “We thought it was cool she was encouraging it and you have to follow your training schedule and motivated, and it is a lot of work but it will pay off and really excited about it.”

Kelli Nadeau/ MSUM Student: “It is good to have goals, and motivation so it was energizing and nice to have someone pay for the entry fee.”

And while the provost is excited to see MSUM students get involved in the Fargo marathon, she supports a healthy student body.

Blackhurst: “We certainly want our students to have a healthy lifestyle and it has been great running with Susie and Kelly and I look forward to running with them and having their company during the race.”

A handful of students have taken up Provost Blackhurst on her offer. These three are going full throttle, destined to finish the full marathon.

And you can catch the Dragon runners, and the entire Marathon events, May 10th, on WDAY 6-3, WDAY Radio and streamed on WDAY.COM.
