Norman County, MN (WDAY TV) - A sheriff's deputy is recovering Tuesday night, after being shot and wounded Tuesday morning.
He was fired at during a routine traffic stop, near Perley.
A 70-person, 12-law enforcement agency manhunt found the suspect, who's now in custody.
Steven and William Henderson are in jail tonight in Crookston facing a number of charges.
It all started around 8:30 this Tuesday morning, when a Norman county sheriff's deputy stopped a vehicle at the intersection of County Road 39 and County Road 12.
2 people were in the car, Steven and William Henderson of Fertile.
Steven had an outstanding warrant, and was arrested.
William Henderson then shot the deputy in the back.
The deputy returned fire, but didn't hit.
The deputy was wearing a bullet resistant vest, and suffered a non-life threatening injury.
A man hunt ensued, involving multiple agencies, and a helicopter from border patrol.
William Henderson's vehicle was located in an abandoned farmstead.
A border patrol helicopter spotted Henderson, in a wooded area, near the old farmhouse.
He was still armed.
He surrendered and was arrested without incident.
Bill Bergquist / Clay County Sheriff: “We're happy that we were able to bring them both into custody in a very short period of time.”
Dennis Roux / Ada Mayor: “This doesn't happen to us very often. And I have to say it, it was brought up that we see this on the TV quite often but it's not in our backyard like this.”
The incident is under investigation by the Norman County Sheriff's Office, the Minnesota State Patrol and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
