Philadelphia, PA (WDAY TV) - Point six seconds separates what could have been and what still could be.

The Minnesota hockey team scored with less than a second left shorthanded on Thursday to knock off North Dakota in the semifinals.

Now the Gophers battle Union tonight in the National Championship in Philadelphia.

While the school size is vastly different, Minnesota enrolls 50,000 students and has a full athletic scholarship.

Union has just over 2,000 and has no scholarship athletes.

That has Minnesota Head Coach Don Lucia saying that is what makes his sport so great as they prepare for the Dutchmen.

Don Lucia/Seeking 3rd National Championship: “I mean you look at college hockey, I said it before the tournament began, the good thing about our sport is on equal footing with Boston College or Minnesota or North Dakota or whoever they are gonna play. That's unique to our sport but that's what makes our sport so great.”
