Minto, ND (WDAY TV) - Parts of the valley are under an emergency flood warning tonight.

Crews closed U.S. Highway 81 through Minto overnight because of water over the road and dangerous conditions.

Authorities had to rescue a woman who tried to drive through a flooded section of the highway after her car stalled.

Barricades are now detouring traffic and nearby homes are keeping close watch on water getting closer to their homes.

The Park River rose to more than nine feet today that is the fourth highest crest on record.

Brent Nelson/Walsh County Emergency Manager: “We weren't expecting a large flood we were anticipating some just because of the 20 inches of snow we picked up last week. We knew that would increase our risk a little bit, but we weren't looking for major type flooding.”

Grafton high school students were excused from class to help sandbag; the entrances to the city park were closed off by the rising Park River.
