Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Special honor for Shanley standout Alivia Fraase as she was selected as one of 15 winners of the National Guard inspiration contest, sponsored by USA Today

The award goes to athletes who excel on and off the field, and those who find time to give back to the community, and Fraase, who's a multiple-time all-state volleyball player, embodies that award.

Alivia Fraase/Inspiration Award Recipient: “It's hard to believe that me of all people, you know I've read some stories and it's about cancer survivors and then there’s me. I just try and do what I can, I'm just grateful that they picked me”

Matthew Wade/USA Today High School Sports: “We define our athletes by the seven core values of the National Guard and Alivia defines those with her work mentoring younger kids working through the community to really lead kids on the right path as she grows up.>

As part of the award, Fraase will get a feature article in USA Today's High School sports section and Shanley's athletic department receives $1,000.
