Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fans of Shakespeare are about to celebrate the writer's 450th birthday later this month, but Tuesday in Fargo, judges and attorneys debated facts surrounding the stories of Macbeth and Hamlet.

As part of Continuing Legal Education, judges, attorneys and students gathered to hear a court hearing and discussion about Shakespeare and the Law.

That meant real judges, State and Federal and real questions.

Like: Was Macbeth's criminal conduct a result of mental disease?

And was the jury correct in rejecting Hamlet's insanity defense?

Federal Judge Ralph Erickson joined District Judge Norm Anderson and Tribal Judge William Zuger on the bench, as they listened to prosecutor Birch Burdick and defense attorneys make their cases in the Shakespeare stories.

Lynn Boughey/ Lawyer and Author: “We are hoping to tie in both the knowledge of Shakespeare and law and Shakespeare can be used in advocacy and analysis and how to interpret rules and laws.”

One legal and Shakespeare experts says Hamlet and Macbeth's stories are still echoed in courtrooms every day, cases with drama and tragedy.
