FARGO – Yet another familiar face will run for city commissioner here.

Cass County Commissioner Vern Bennett told The Forum he plans on filing for the election today before the 4 p.m. deadline.

Bennett is serving his final term on the county board this year. He has served three four-year terms, which is the limit.

Before that, he was superintendent of Fargo Public Schools for 28 years.

“I think Fargo needs a choice, a buffet of people to select from,” Bennett said, “and I think that Fargo needs somebody that sees the best days of Fargo yet ahead, and I’m that type of a person.”

Two city commissioner spots are available in the June 10 election. The top two vote-getters win the seats.

Others running for commissioner include: incumbent Tim Mahoney, former City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn, former Cass County Commissioner Scott Wagner, school board member John Strand, and Anthony Gehrig.
