Houston, TX (WDAY TV) - The New York Yankees take the field Tuesday, opening their season in Houston.

It's the final opening day for future hall of fame short stop Derek Jeter, who announced this season will be his last.

Jeter has amassed 3,316 hits in his career and has a World Series ring for each finger on one hand.

An ankle injury limited him to just 17 games last season, so he's ready to make the most of this final year in pinstripes.

Derek Jeter/ Will Retire After Season: “Well, I don't look at it as a farewell tour. I look at it as a season where we're trying to win a championship. This is not a farewell tour. We're out here trying to win games, so in that sense, it's no different than any other season. Ever since we were in little league, and you had the little parade going up to opening day everyone looks forward to it. I'm excited for this one.”

Jeter and the Yankees only appearance at Target Field this season will be the weekend of July 4th.
