Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A local Red Cross member is in Washington, helping the response to the landslide disaster there.
Brian Shawn of the Red Cross Dakotas Region has been in Washington since Friday, helping with public affairs.
We spoke with Shawn via Skype this afternoon.
He says there are about 300 volunteers providing food and finding places to stay for victims, including setting up shelters.
Brian Shawn/Red Cross: "Things have calmed down a little bit now where we're able to focus on what the needs of those communities are. Certainly, there has not been a lot of closure yet because the search continues and probably will continue for the next several weeks."
Shawn says this will be a long-term operation for the Red Cross, at least 60 to 90 days. The death toll from the landslide has risen to 24.
