Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It's been a whirlwind ride for the Bison Men's basketball team.
Though their NCAA Tournament run came to an end last night, it was the best in school history.
As they hop off the plane in Fargo, it's almost hard to imagine everything this team went through the past few days.
They made history and in the process, became something of America's sweetheart, the green and gold plastered across Sports blogs and television.
Saul Phillips/Coach : "This last weekend has just been so surreal. It's difficult to frame it but I'm grateful for it, I know that."
They returned to Fargo a day after a heartbreaking loss to San Diego State in the third round, but in good spirits.
After all, they just pulled off the most successful season in school history, winning their first-ever tournament game in an upset against 5th-seeded Oklahoma.
Thanks, in part, to a huge play by freshman Carlin Dupree.
Carlin Dupree/Freshman: "It feels good to know that you've done something special in history and it will be there forever. And to know that we've accomplished some goals this season."
Fans back home followed their every move… packing into local bars to share the experience with their fellow Bison.
Fan: "It's so amazing. I didn't think we'd make it this far."
Fan: "It's great. Great for North Dakota, great exposure."
Now, that the fairy tale is over… it's back to reality.
But that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Dupree: "I just expect it all to be normal again. I guess just school, that's all."
Phillips: "I just hope everybody enjoyed this ride. It was special for us. It may not come again, it may come again. But we had it once, and that's pretty special."
