Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -Many kids look forward to birthdays knowing that a stack of presents is headed their way.

But one Fargo girl is using her big day to give a big gift.

Tonight Tenley Kloster celebrated her 11th birthday.

But the stack of gifts that piled up as the party got started were not for her.

It's not an unusual sight at an eleven-year-old's birthday party.

Tenley Kloster is tearing enthusiastically into a pile of presents.

But there is one big difference, none of them are for her.

Tenley Kloster, birthday girl: "I think that the homeless are going to like that a lot."

This year, Tenley decided she didn't want any gifts.

Instead, she'll split these up and bring them to the YWCA and Churches United.

Tenley: "I have so much and they have so little. Really just kind of hurts my heart to think of people that are sad and no home, have a hard life."

JulieKloster, Tenley’s mom: "I said are you sure that's what you want to do? She said 'yep,' so I said I'll put it on the invitations when we invite people over."

So, everyone in the family along with about ten girls who came over for Tenley's party set out to do a different kind of birthday shopping.

Bringing everything from toys and snacks to basics like towels and pillows.

Tenley: "Sometimes they have a pillow but no blanket, sometimes they don't have each and… Mom, are you crying??" "No!" "Ok."

While the party was a highlight , what pre-teen girl doesn't love a sleepover.

Tenley says she can't wait to bring these gifts to the people who really need them.

Tenley: "The best gift I could possibly ever get in my life is for the homeless and hungry to be happy."

Tenley says she has volunteered at Churches United before, her mom says from a young age she has had a caring heart and a concern for those who might be less fortunate.
