Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -Some police officers are heroes in Grand Forks, but not for fighting crime.
Police were responding to a medical assist at this house about 1:30 Monday morning.
The family inside, expecting a baby.
They planned to go to the hospital, but the mother's water broke.
She started delivering, and the ambulance was too far away.
When officer Kris Brown arrived, he and his men acted quickly and delivered a healthy 7 pound 9 ounce baby boy in the family dining room.
Kris Brown, Grand Forks Police Department: “We just acted and my sergeant had a towel all ready to go for when the baby came out and everything just worked. It was surprisingly smooth.”
Rachel Walden, mother of newborn: “He was so wonderful, I was so appreciative of what he did, we were just very thankful -- his mannerism that night and he just handled everything was just a blessing for us -- he came in and saved the day for us. “
The new member of the family is Maximus Arthur Walden.
Both baby and mom are doing well.
