Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo Representative Scot Kelsh has announced he will not seek a 6th term in the North Dakota Legislature.
Kelsh, a Democrat who represents Fargo's District 11, released a statement Friday morning announcing his decision.
“I have had the honor of serving the people of District 11 for 18 years, having formed alliances and friendships with many on both sides of the political aisle,” Kelsh said.
Kelsh's many accomplishments in the state legislature include providing significant property tax relief, dramatic development of wind energy, ensuring robust habitat for wildlife, and bolstering resources and awareness to address child care quality and availability, among many others.
“Doing work that I have enjoyed for 18 years has been a tremendous privilege. It is not without considerable mixed emotions that I made this decision. I will treasure the friendships I have formed for the rest of my life. I particularly would like to express gratitude to the residents of District 11, whom have entrusted me to represent them since 1996,” Kelsh added.
Kelsh was arrested for DUI in November of 2013; his next court appearance is set for March 3rd. He voted for more stringent DUI laws in the last legislative session.
Kelsh says he plans to remain in local and state politics.
