Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - We warm up with some singing, that helped get us ready for this past summer’s baseball season.
Isaac Olson/Fargo: “There is really no better song to sing than one that represents your country.”
Twenty participants were trying to do just that as the RedHawks held their annual try outs to sing the Star Spangled Banner this season.
Eric Jorgenson/RedHawks Promotions Director: “We have quite a few returners that we know are going to come back and sing, but we get a good variety of different ones that come through here.”
Tiffany Sieu & Shelly Sommers/Wilmar, MN: “It would be really fun; we haven't got to sing together for a while so it would be fun to get that experience again.”
It may feel like American Idol but most singers agreed it was a fun experience in front of the group of judges.
Sieu&Sommers: “We have done a lot of auditioning - they were really nice - they gave us a lot of complements, it just felt very comforting the whole time - they smiled the whole time.”
But just like trying out for a baseball team the nerves were still a factor.
Olson: “It's a little nerve wrecking at times if there are a lot of people and you can kind of hear them humming the notes and when it's your turn to go in the nerves kind of hit you cause there is nobody else singing, you don't have to listen they are listening to you. But the more you do it, the more experience you get, the easier it get and the easier it is to deal with the attention.”
Jorgenson: “If they can't sing in front of three people how are they going to in front of 5,000. We want to make sure that they are confident.”
Olson: “It's a lot more than just words to me, hearing the roar of the crowd when you are done and they respect it as much as I do. It's our National Anthem, there is just nothing else like it.”
