Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - For the first time since the track opened in 1967, Red River Valley Speedway no longer has the sound of roaring engines and the loud cheers from the stands.
Instead it's left empty. Following last year, Danny Schatz who had leased the track from the fair board the past three years decided not to renew his lease. Many people are wondering if racing will ever return to Red River Speedway. The fair board has been using it for other events like the Hard Charge and the color run earlier this year. But, Fair Association GM Bryan Schulz says he's still open to leasing out the track.
Bryan Schulz, RRVF Assocation General Manager: “We've never said that we don't want racing out here at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds. We as the Red River Valley Association are not going to do the racing. We've given more opportunities to people if they're interested in coming out and talking about leasing to do that. The track is a premiere track, but it’s just one of those things where we've lost money in the past and it's not something that we can continue to do.”
