Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- A senior at Moorhead High School has become the first to make it into the highly selective Juilliard School.
Nina Grollman hopes to begin classes in the drama program next fall. From the local stage to a New York City audition room, Nina Grollman has proven she is a talent to be reckoned with.
Here, she performs at Young Arts, a national program that recognizes talented young artists.
Nina: "It was probably the most amazing experience of my life."
But more amazing experiences are on the horizon.
Nina recently went to Chicago to audition for the Drama program at New York City's Juilliard, arguably the country's most acclaimed school of arts.
Nina: "I was told by my drama teacher to audition, but I was really skeptical. And I was like, well, it's going to be $80 out the window, but it's one of those things where I'm really going to regret it if I don't do it."
1400 auditioned this year, 18 made it into the program. Nina was one of them.
Nina: "I don't think it's sunk in yet. It really hasn't. It was one of those things you saw in movies, where you were like well, that's not going to happen."
Her parents, beaming with pride, say at first they worried about their daughter pursuing a career in the arts.
It can be a tough and unpredictable business.
Stephen: "We were a little concerned but we saw how much success she had. We looked into it and researched it, and in the end we really came to the conclusion this is what she wants to do and we think she can do it."
Nina grew up involved with school and community theatre in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
Stephanie: "I'm just grateful to the schools here. I never believed when we moved here, that Nina would have such great opportunities in the public school system."
Those opportunities have paid off - Nina is the first Moorhead High School students to make it into the prestigious school.
Nina: "Doing acting for four years, pretty rigorously."
Nina's classmates also voted her into the Homecoming Court at Moorhead High School.
