Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - There are few teams in North Dakota that can match the tradition of Fargo South football. The Bruins, who claimed the state championship in 2010, fell back to earth last year losing their first four games.
They're eager to forget 2011 as fall camp gets underway but not all of it. South brings back 16 starters, a majority on the offense, eager to pick up on last year's 4-1 finish and show the rest of the EDC that the Bruins are back.
Troy Mattern, South Head Coach: “There is a lot of energy and when you have a good senior crew with a bunch of leadership the energy is different. That's what we have this year and is something we probably lacked last year. It's just that energy that we needed to be able to have the season that we are going to have this year hopefully with the leadership is going to pay dividends as we go down the road.”
Zach Reich, South Running Back: “The experience is going to come in handy, everybody is just gonna know what they are going to do. They aren't going to mess up anymore, not going to have any faulty play. They simplified the play book just a little bit so everybody is going to understand it and we are all going to be able to figure it out.”
That's two stops down out of 24 on our Fall Camp Tour. Next up we visit West Fargo where the Packers are eager for a new season. Check that out at 6 and 10.
